Suburban Residence - Greece
A Mediterranean Renovation in Northern Athens
Client: Private
Location: Northern Athens, Greece
Year: 2024
Project Type: Residential Renovation & Redesign
Role: Architectural Planning & Interior/Exterior Visual Development
This project was developed for a private client who purchased an existing suburban house in Athens and sought a complete architectural and interior redesign. I was responsible for the architectural plans as well as the interior and exterior visual development.
The existing structure reflected a common suburban typology of the 1990s–2000s in Athens, visually similar to many surrounding houses, with little sense of identity or connection to place. The proposal reinterprets the house through a Mediterranean modern lens, introducing clarity, cohesion and material authenticity.
The spaces were reorganized to enhance light, circulation and spatial fluidity, while maintaining a calm and balanced domestic environment.
The façade combines warm plaster tones with darker architectural frames and natural stone elements. Horizontal wooden fencing reinforces privacy while maintaining visual permeability toward the garden. The entrance becomes a transitional threshold, stone steps, vertical greenery and a recessed door create invitation. The proposed planting follows a Mediterranean logic, prioritizing drought-resistant, native species. The main living space embraces warmth through terracotta flooring, referencing Mediterranean material culture. Curved seating elements soften the geometry of the room, introducing comfort and flow. Natural wood tables and indoor plants reinforce the connection between interior and exterior.
